One of the most common—and often unspoken—questions people have about death is this:
What happens if someone is cremated? Can they still be resurrected?

It’s an honest question. And it deserves a clear, biblical answer.

The Concern Behind the Question

For many, the concern is simple:
If the body is reduced to ashes, how can God raise it again?

After all, the Bible speaks about resurrection. It speaks about bodies being raised. So what happens when there’s… nothing left?

Paul’s Answer: Think Like a Seed

In 1 Corinthians 15, the Apostle Paul addresses the resurrection of the body. And instead of getting technical, he gives us a picture:

“What you sow does not come to life unless it dies… what you sow is not the body that is to be… But God gives it a body as he has chosen.” (1 Corinthians 15:36–38)

Paul compares our bodies to a seed.

When you plant a seed, it doesn’t stay the same. It goes into the ground, breaks down, and something new—something greater—comes from it.

The plant is connected to the seed… but it is also gloriously different.

Burial, Cremation… or Time

Even a buried body does not remain intact.

Over time, every body returns to dust. Whether through natural decomposition, disaster, or time itself, the physical body does not stay preserved.

Cremation doesn’t create a new problem—it simply speeds up what already happens naturally.

The resurrection is not about God needing all the original molecules put back together.

The resurrection is about the power of God.

Scripture tells us that God formed Adam from the dust of the ground. If God can create a body from dust, He can certainly raise one from ashes.

Our hope is not in the condition of the body.
Our hope is in the One who raises the dead.

What Kind of Body Will We Have?

Paul goes on to describe the resurrection like this:

• Perishable → Imperishable
• Dishonor → Glory
• Weakness → Power
• Natural body → Spiritual body

This doesn’t mean a non-physical body. It means a transformed, glorified body—perfectly suited for eternity.

So… Can Someone Be Cremated and Still Be Resurrected?

Yes. Absolutely.

Cremation does not limit God.
Ashes do not confuse Him.
Nothing about death puts someone beyond His power.

A Final Word of Hope

For the believer, the question is not how the body is handled after death.

The real question is: Do you belong to Jesus Christ?

Because the promise of resurrection is not based on burial practices—it is based on the finished work of Christ.

As Paul writes:

“Death is swallowed up in victory.” (1 Corinthians 15:54)

That is our hope.
That is our confidence.
And that hope remains—whether buried or cremated.
