Can the Greek Really Make Same-Sex Relationships Biblical? One argument increasingly heard today is that Christians have misunderstood the Bible's teaching concerning same-sex relationships because English translations supposedly mistranslate certain Greek words. The argument sounds impressive because Greek words are involved. But knowing a little Greek should never become a way of making the Bible say something its authors were not saying. The issue is actually much broader than one Greek word. 1. Start With Creation, Not With a Difficult Greek Word The biblical teaching about marriage does not begin in 1 Corinthians 6. It begins in Genesis. Genesis 1:27 says God created humanity “male and female,” and Genesis 2:24 describes marriage as a man leaving his father and mother and being joined to his wife so that the two become one flesh.
