The Light Still Shines — Introducing My New Book Series Through the Gospel of John
There’s something about the Gospel of John that never stops stirring my heart.
Every time I preach through it, I’m reminded that John doesn’t just tell us what Jesus did — he helps us see who Jesus is.
The Word became flesh. The Light entered the darkness. And once that Light appears, nothing can ever be the same again.
As I preached and studied John’s Gospel verse by verse, I began to imagine what it might have been like for ordinary people to encounter Jesus for the first time — to hear His words, wrestle with doubt, and slowly discover faith.
That thought became the seed for a new project: a narrative series called The Light in the Darkness, where story meets Scripture and faith comes alive.
Book 1: The Beginning of the Journey
The first volume covers John 1–4, following a young man named Eli Turner, whose search for meaning leads him to a preacher by the river named John Baxter.
Through John’s teaching, Eli’s eyes are opened to the promise of a coming Messiah.
From a wedding in Cana where water becomes wine, to a midnight conversation about being born again, to a Samaritan woman who finds living water — Eli begins to realize that this Light is no ordinary flame.
It’s the very presence of God breaking through the shadows of his life.
This story grew out of my own sermons and study notes — the same messages I’ve preached in our church — but retold as a living journey that invites readers to experience the Gospel from the inside out.
Why I Wrote It
I wanted to create something that would help people do more than read the Gospel — I wanted them to feel it.
To walk beside those first followers.
To wrestle with the same questions they asked.
To see the same miracles and, in the end, to hear Jesus’ invitation for themselves:
“Come and see.”
My hope is that this book — and the series that follows — will help readers grow in faith, rediscover grace, and remember that the Light of Christ still shines in every dark place.
